An employee of the client resigned
claiming that he had been discriminated against on the grounds of his
homosexuality. This was one of the first
claims brought under the new legislation protecting people from discrimination
on the grounds of their sexual orientation. The complainant alleged various
acts of harassment and homophobia. Cosalt had robust equal opportunities
policies and denied that it was in any way at fault. The company believed
itself to be an employer of equality. The case was clearly important
to its reputation as a large employer in the area. First Business Support
took the case on and successfully defended it at Tribunal. The hearing
lasted
for three
days and involved substantial amounts of evidence. Cosalt was delighted
that its policies had been vindicated.
