Major changes to the regime of leave and pay for parents will come into force in 2007 and the legislation enabling these will hit the statute book on the 1st October 2006. More details will be published shortly in “First Edition” but essentially the legislation increases the maximum length of maternity pay from six to nine months; abolishes the service qualification for additional maternity leave; and also increases the maximum length of adoption pay to nine months.
